Arrived in Adelaide, although the taxi dropped us at the entrance to the hotel's restaurant instead of reception. Went shopping for supplies for the next day as we needed to be up at 5:50 to get ready for our tour to Kangaroo Island.
Walked along Hindley Street, through pedestrianised Rundle Mall and into Rundle Street checking out places to eat. Adelaide seemed so much more low key than Melbourne. No skyscrapers, a little less hustle and bustle, more laid back. Had a quick meal in Chopstix on Rundle Street and went to bed.
Woke up at 5:20 instead of 5:50 because Karin hadn't changed the time zone on her phone.
Coach took us down to Cape Jervis where we caught the ferry for Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island.
First stop was Seal Bay where we stood on the sand only about 4m away. We saw a mother just returning from the sea meet up with her pup.
We had lunch at Vivonnes Bay (a barbie) then drove on to Hanson's Bay to see koalas sleeping in trees and also wallabies. Saw a galah too, a bit like a parrot but with a bright pink chest.
Then on to Flinders Chase national park, where we saw Cape Barron geese; then to Remarkable Rocks, granite boulders that have been eroded over hundred of millions of years. The red colouring is actually caused by a type of lichen growing on the rocks.
Finally we visited Admiral's Arch to see the New Zealand fur seals.
Grabbed at fish cake and bacon bun at Penneshaw while we waited for the Ferry. Got back to Melbourne around 9pm.
Had a look around Central Market. Steve helped a scared, little girl come down the escalator to meet her Mum at the bottom.
Walked through Victoria Square in the centre of Adelaide.
Then headed up to the South Australia Museum on North Terrace to see the Aboriginal Culture exhibits.
Caught a tram from just outside the railway station down to Holdfast Bay in Glenelg. Walked out on the pier, looked around the shops and stopped for a beer in the Dublin Hotel. Returned back to the city by tram.
Early morning rise for Jetstar flight to Cairns. The 2hr 45min flight passed really quickly for Steve who spent the time playing Zombie Tower on Karin's iPad.
