Today was a long 63km ride but it was nearly all down hill! It started with a gentle 150m (500 ft) climb from Olot on the Via Verde. The scenery was stunning and a couple of us even got to see a horse rolling on its back.
Some of us made a coffee stop near Sant Esteve d'en Bas...
...while others stopped at the next village along.
A little after midday, and just after the village of Les Planes d'Hostoles, we arrived at a picnic spot, where Samu met us with a huge selection of meats, cheeses, breads, pates, crisps, juices, gazpacho soup, quince jelly, fruit, etc.
We continued on, nearly taking the wrong route at Amer. Then halfway between Amer and La Cellera de Ter we had a short but steep 7% ascent, followed by a 14% descent.
The scenery was slowly changing from mountain peaks to hills with some farm land, gentle rivers and later on, woodland.
After 63km we reached Girona, cycling through the park and along the river to our hotel, Peninsular Hotel.
As night fell, some of the couples had a romantic meal away from the group while the rest found a good meal in the Plaça de la Independència.
