Followed Shane's car to Mount Warning. His Sat Nav made a mistake so ended up making an illegal U-turn. Karin visited the toilets at the car park. When she came out she was surprised to see Steve and Shane scrutinising the building. What we were looking at was a snake sleeping in the roof of the toilet building.
We congregated in the car park.
Once everybody had arrived we started the 4.5km climb to the peak which is 1,150m above sea level.
After just over an hour of constantly climbing steps and slopes we reached the sign indicating we were half way.
By this point we were starting to get some impressive views.
Some two hours after we started we reached the final hurdle: a fairly steep climb using a chain and footholds.
Eventually, we all made it.
The views were breathtaking. We were standing at the centre of the caldera of a huge volcano known as Tweed Volcano where Mount Warning is the volcanic plug. Thus we were circled by a range of mountains that formed the caldera edge, at a radius of roughly 50km. Tweed Volcano erupted over 20 million years ago.
On the very last stage of the descent Steve went over on his ankle and had to hobble the rest of the way down. Thanks to Miki who offered her scarf as a means of ankle support.
After descending the mountain we drove to visit the location of the house where Neolie, Tracey, Troy and Adam's Dad was born.
We said our good-byes (there were tears) and headed for Brisbane Airport for an overnight stay.
Flew to Hong Kong.
